Bio
Katie spent eight months living in Chile, where she became certified in teaching English to speakers of other languages. She is a sign language interpreter based in Washington, DC who has worked alongside the international Deaf community both in the US and abroad. During her graduate studies at Gallaudet University, she worked at the English Language Institute, tutoring Deaf international students in English. This sparked her interest in getting involved with Deaf communities around the world. She has also done volunteer work in translation for Pezvak Nashenava, an organization that advocates to advance the rights of deaf people in Iran. Katie holds national certification in American Sign Language-English interpretation and also has experience interpreting in Spanish and communicating in Chilean Sign Language as well as International Sign. She is passionate about equal linguistic and educational access for all, no matter where they are from or where they have found themselves.
